Merisa Bambur

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, Registered Art Therapist with the Art Therapist Credentials Board, Inc. and artist. I received a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts with Psychology minor from Arizona State University in 2014.  Shortly after, I attended Phillips Graduate University for a Masters in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and Art Therapy in 2016. As a therapist, I have worked at the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, BAART Treatment, Insight Treatment Center and Silicon Beach Treatment Center before starting my private practice.

I specialize in Art Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Psychodynamic Theory working with teens and adults to heal relationships, addictions, eating disorders, anxiety, PTSD, low self-esteem and grief/loss. The goal for therapy is to learn about yourself and to create new ways of thinking and behaving.

I am an art therapist, meaning art is used as a communication tool to express emotions, process trauma, practice mindfulness, and relieve stress. Art-making takes about 10 minutes of session, then we talk about the art. Your unconscious is creating the artwork, and talking about our observations of the artwork increases insight. I have many clients who are not willing to do art therapy, and that's okay as well! Talking is just as effective. If you're from a family who didn't talk about feelings, it is possible that talking about your feelings isn't easy. I am here to help ease you into it. Therapy is like exercising. You will be working new muscles and I'm here to help you get stronger.
